CSW Weekend 2020

9-12 October 2020

Nythfa House, Brecon, Powys

With all the uncertainty of the current Covid-19 and the prospect of a Welsh lockdown being imposed, the holiday weekend was under threat of cancellation until the very last minute. So it was with a certain amount of relief that 16 hardy walkers arrived at Nythfa House for the long-awaited walking weekend.

The weather forecast for the weekend was mixed, and we could only hope that any rain would be moderate and short-lived.

The HF hotel was bright and welcoming, and conformed to all the current standards for PPE and social distancing, including a one-way system to access the bedrooms in the main house, and widely-spaced tables in both the restaurant and function room, where meetings would be held, both before and after evening meal.

In contrast to last year, all the games and other activities in the evening were not on the programme, so after our daily walks, a good chin-wag over drinks was all that we could do.

The walks over the weekend were of varying difficulties, the whole group spent Saturday walking in and around Brecon, and on Sunday, the group split in two, a large group attacking the slopes of Pen-y-Fan and the rest embarking on a less-strenuous walk on Mynydd Illtyd to the top of Twyn y Gaer.

All are returning for another weekend in 2021, this time we are hoping to visit Dovedale in the Peak District. More details of this weekend will be published later.
