Local History

The History Group meets on the third Thursday of the month, with the exception of August and December.

There is a wide range of speakers throughout the year, some concerning Local History and others outside the local area. We also have one or two evenings where members are invited to put on displays of their own, which they would like to share with the Meeting.

In addition to this we have four interest groups, namely, Family History, My Collection, Bricks and Mortar and Military Chest. The second half of the evening normally features one of these topics. It is the aim of the History Group to make local and not so local history an enlightening and knowledgeable experience.

In Clevedon we are blessed with a rich source of historical interest, the town’s Victorian architecture is some of the finest in the country, and many of the town’s folk over the years have had interesting tales to tell.

Please use our Website, we hope you will find that small item of information that has been eluding you. All members of the Civic Society are welcome to attend our meetings, and a warm welcome is given to any visitors from near or far. We pride ourselves on the fact that many of our monthly talks are provided by group members.

Please join us for a friendly and interesting evening.

Engravings of Clevedon

This book of six engravings of Clevedon was published in the town by A.R. Ransford of the Royal Library in Hill Road. It was sent to the Society by an un-named correspondent from Surrey, who found the book whilst clearing out a house. We thank that person for the gift.
